Dr. Clopton recently presented her film “Did Johhny Come Marching Home?” at the monthly Mississippi Department of Archives and History event. The film is a salute to the people of color from Mississippi who served in the Civil War in Mississippi. “Some people focus on which side had or did not have black men in battle,” said Dr. Clopton. “Others emphasize the concept of the North defeating the South to save the slaves. While it may be important to some to continue this civil war in color, the more important fact is that black men, men of valor, did fight to help free themselves. It is because of their sacrifices that we have the freedom to discuss, the right to disagree, the privilege of voting, and the obligation to continue.”
